Chiropractic manipulation also known as, the chiropractic adjustment, is a form of treatment used to aid in many conditions. There are many different methods of adjusting and the doctor will choose the best adjustment for the area of interest and taking into consideration the patient preference. The chiropractor will use their hands to palpate, or feel, the joints to find any areas of restriction.

Q: So what exactly does a chiropractic manipulation do?

A: It is the intention of chiropractic manipulation to restore proper motion to joints that are restricted thus helping to create proper biomechanical function.

In other words, sometimes we don't move as well through different regions in our spine or our extremities (hips, ankles, feet, wrists ect). Over time this can lead to dysfunction and eventually, pain. As the chiropractor, it is my job to locate these joint restrictions and perform a chiropractic manipulation so that they can begin to move properly.

Soft tissue therapy is often done before or after the chiropractic manipulation to further aid in the restoration of proper function and motion of the restricted joints. Often times soft tissue therapy helps resolve trigger points found in the muscle. Like chiropractic manipulation, there are many different forms of soft tissue therapy. Some of the forms of soft tissue therapy offered in this office are:

Manual Muscle Work: The doctor will use his hands to actively release muscles and trigger points.

Instrument Assisted: The doctor will use a soft tissue specific tool used to aid in soft tissue treatment.

Cupping: Helpful for tissue mobility as it gently lifts the layers of skin, muscle fascia, and muscle tissue allowing new blood and nutrients into the tissue.

Dynamic/Kenesio Taping: Used to help with proprioception, or your body's awareness in space, and can create a feeling of off-load on the muscle tissue.

Dry Needling: Using a single use, sterilized, dry needle, the doctor with insert the needle into a muscle or tendinous tissue to evoke a response out of the tissue on a deeper level then some of the more superficial soft tissue techniques.

Dry

This is the part that separates us from most other chiropractic offices. The doctor will prescribe a personalized treatment plan with specific rehabilitative exercises. These will be provided to each patient for future reference. These exercises are intended to help keep mobility in the joints, or create stability in joints that perhaps, move too much. It is the goal of the chiropractic manipulation and soft tissue therapy to allow the joints and soft tissue structures to move better but, to keep these things moving and functioning properly we incorporate rehabilitative exercises. We will review exercises in the office with you to make sure you are performing them correctly.  You can take these exercises home to do which will  help aid in the progress of your condition. The goal is to give YOU the tools to help treat your own condition thus, keeping you doing the things you love to do and spending less time in the doctors office. We believe giving patients the tools to manage their own pain is the best thing we can do for them.
